Epasinghe, K. A.
The widespread stigma associated with mental illness creates a veil of difficulties over
the lives of individuals who experience it, creating barriers in a variety of domains such
as work, education, livelihood and particularly concerning their capacity to sustain
social ties. Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify the disruption of social
connections of persons with mental illness due to stigmatization. This qualitative
research study was done in Colombo district, Western Province, Sri Lanka based on four
major hospitals with psychiatric units. According to judgmental sampling method 4
psychiatrists were selected, whereas according to convenience sampling method 100
caretakers were selected. Therefore, the selected sample comprised of 104 individuals.
The qualitative data was gathered by using in-depth interviews with the four
psychiatrists, while quantitative data was gathered by using questionnaires filled by the
100 caretakers. Qualitative data was analyzed by the use of thematic analysis and
quantitative data was evaluated through graphical representations such as bar graphs
and pir charts by using Microsoft Excel. According to the findings of this research, the
strength of family members works as a protective tool to reduce distress resulting from
mental illnesses. Stigma directed by external society was identified as a factor that
motivates self-stigma. However, the study identifies symptoms of mental illness to be
another factor that leads to the impairment of social connections. The study highlights
the significance of promoting awareness of mental illness as a means to reduce the
process if stigma experienced by people with mental illness. The main objective of the
research is to identify the possible impacts caused by social connections of persons with
mental illness due to stigma in order to strengthen social ties, providing a potential path
for the advancement of mental well-being.

Study on Factors Identification on Nutritional Status Among Children: An Econometrics Analysis
Wimalasiri, W. R. K. M.; Thathsarani, U. S.
Nutritional status is influenced by critical factors as family, food, security and parenting
practices, as well as availability of facilities. Underweight, wasting, and stunting are all
prevalent in Sri Lanka, and a variety of factors influence children's nutritional status.
The primary aim of this study is to analyze the factors that influence nutrient status
among children under five years of age. The study was carried out utilizing a quantitative
technique with filled 115 questionnaires. The cluster sample technique was utilized to
choose households with children under the age of five in the Imaduwa GN Division. The
research objectives were met using descriptive statistics, the Chi-Square test, and ordinal
regression. Findings were that, the female children have a higher percentage of normal
and underweight nutrition status than male children. Furthermore, the study discovered
that the history of infection, sanitation facilities, family income, mother's health state,
birth order, and place of delivery are all important determinants of children's nutritional
status. Children's nutritional status in Sri Lanka must be improved through the
development of community-based nutritional interventions, the reinforcement of
current nutrition legislation, and the establishment of microfinance programs that
addresses newborn feeding practices, food insecurity, and low socioeconomic concerns.

Nature and the Relevance of the World Balance of Power after World War II
H. E. N., Priyadarshani
The balance of power, a core concept in an international relations, seeks equilibrium
among nations to prevent dominance. Rooted in realism, it deters aggressions and fosters
stability by distributing influence across states. As the global landscape evolves, debates
persist on adapting the balance to accommodate non-state actors and technological
shifts, crucial for international stability. The concept had also been applied in practice in
international politics. It is important since its contribution to the maintenance of world
peace as an international system had lasted for nearly three centuries. Although the
concept of balance of power had been in practice in the international system for nearly
three centuries, there are differing views on its relevance and nature. Research problem
of this study is to find, what are the balances of power models influencing the behavior of
the international system and why is its relevance presently outdated? This research
paper contains a qualitative research study on the nature of world balance of power
within the post-World War II period and utilized secondary data for the said purpose.
Accordingly, the concept of balance of power is still relevant present day context but is
relatively outdated compared to the past. But there is still validity for this concept as one
of the strategies of power management. There can be no peace without a balance of
power, and peace represents an arrangement of power in a stable manner or balance of
power.
