Amidst the ever-changing landscape of the tourism and hospitality industry, Issue No. 2 of Volume 3 of the South Asian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality (SAJTH) arrives at a pivotal moment. As we embark on this journey, navigating the dynamic currents of the South Asian region's tourism sector, we must pause and reflect on the prevailing trends shaping its trajectory. South Asia stands at a crossroads, witnessing a resurgence in tourism following the disruptions caused by the economic recession in South Asia. With borders reopening and travel restrictions easing, the region welcomes travellers eager to immerse themselves in its rich cultural tapestry and awe-inspiring landscapes. However, this revival occurs against a backdrop of profound geopolitical shifts, economic uncertainties, and mounting environmental concerns, presenting stakeholders with a formidable challenge—to adapt and innovate in response to consumers' evolving preferences and the market's ever-shifting dynamics.

Van Hoang, Nguyen; Dao Thi Thuy, Ninh; Pham Do, Van Trung
The satisfaction of tourists plays a crucial role in enhancing the image of a tourist destination and influencing their decision to visit and revisit. Despite numerous global studies on this issue, there needs to be more research on factors influencing tourist satisfaction with traditional cuisine, especially for young Vietnamese tourists in a historic city like Hue, Vietnam. This study surveyed 250 young domestic tourists visiting Hue in early 2023 and included 12 semi-structured interviews with culinary experts, chefs, and tourism businesses. The results of hypothesis testing revealed that factors related to traditional Hue cuisine, such as Culinary Quality (CQ), Service Quality (SQ), Food hygiene and safety (HS), and Fair Price (FP), positively impact Customer Satisfaction (SAT). However, the factor of Restaurant Environment (RE) was rejected. Additionally, the interview results highlighted the significance of traditional Hue cuisine in tourism development. The study proposes policies and solutions to enhance tourist satisfaction with traditional Hue cuisine. This research contributes to formulating management policies and promoting traditional cuisine as a crucial factor in attracting visitors to tourist destinations.

Jayasooriya, S.P.; Bandara, R.A.S.P.
The paper analyses the tourism demand and its economic determinants for effective management within the tourism sector. Utilising the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS), the study aims to estimate tourism expenditure and price responsiveness elasticities. The model employs data from 1995 to 2019, focusing on total share, total expenditure share, and total expenditure share per item. The findings reveal that Sri Lanka emerges as a destination with typical demand characteristics, showcasing a notably higher demand for tourism. Analysis of spending elasticities, both in terms of own and cross prices, underscores the country's favourable position within the tourism market. Specifically, the results indicate that the demand for tourism in Sri Lanka is sensitive to pricing dynamics, with elasticity values suggesting a significant response of tourist demand to price fluctuations. Understanding Sri Lanka's competitive position relative to other destinations underscores the importance of tailoring management strategies to suit the unique demand characteristics of each country. Given the price sensitivity observed within Sri Lanka's tourism demand, careful attention to pricing mechanisms is imperative for sustaining and enhancing the country's tourism sector.
