Miththrananda, B. Y. G. W.; Priyanath, H. M. S.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Sri Lanka's recent economic downturn,
work-from-home (WFH) and long-distance leadership (LDL) have been widely adopted
across sectors, raising concerns about their impact on employee performance. Thisstudy
examines the effects of WFH and LDL on the performance of selected government
employees in Sri Lanka using an explanatory sequential mixed-method approach.
Quantitative data were collected via structured questionnaires from 197 government
employees and analyzed using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling
(PLS-SEM). Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with seven
public service employees and analyzed using thematic analysis. Quantitative findin
show WFH and LDL positively impact employee performance, with WFH having a more
significant influence. Qualitative results corroborate these findings, emphasizi
effectiveness of remote work in enhancing performance. The study suggests government
departments should promote remote work environments and invest in robust WFH
infrastructure to maximize employee performance, especially when remote work
becomes essential.

A Study of Victims’ Perceptions on Post War Reconciliation Efforts by the Government of Sri Lanka
Gunasekara, Suranjith
Reconciliation is a difficult process that can help conflicting parties restore t
relationships. "Effective reconciliation is the best guarantee that the violence of the past
will not return." The end of the conflict raises tremendous expectations for peace a
reconciliation among the Sri Lankan people and the world community. There are several
research studies on war and post - war conditions in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan war has
produced a diverse range of war victims. With the military victory over the separatist
Tamil movement to win a homeland for them, the Sri Lankan Government has begun a
process of reconciliation through a package that emphasises infrastructure development
while attempting to enforce its memorialization project and deny the right of memory for
Tamil minorities, including Tamils from the North and East of Sri Lanka. The Eastern
Part's development package, known as "Negenahira Udanaya" (Reawaking East), has
placed an overemphasis on infrastructure development while ignoring how people
perceive those efforts and failing to appreciate the significance of memory in formi
perception. This ethnographic research aims to understand how perception influenc
reconciliation and what critical issues must be addressed in an effective reconciliation
process. The study was done in Karadiyanaru area in Batticaloa district in Sri Lanka
using the interview method. The collected data was analysed thematically. The study
concludes that unless the memory and perception components of the reconciliation
process are addressed, true reconciliation will remain a fantasy for Southern politicians.

Short video app usage among older adults in rural China has grown significantl
reflecting broader digital adoption trends. While previous studies have focused
addiction and health issues, with an emphasis on urban areas, this study explores the
social impacts of short videos on rural older adults. Conducted from May to August 2023
in Yongfeng, Jiangxi Province, the research investigates the implications of short video
usage among older adults. Data collection involved semi-structured interviews with 18
respondents selected through snowball sampling, analyzed using inductive content
analysis and mixed methods. The findings highlight both positive and negative impact
Short videos provide benefits such as entertainment, social connection, and informati
access but raise concerns about user suitability and safety. Challenges include
accessibility and security, which hinder older adults from fully leveraging digital
technology. Addressing these issues can enhance their digital experience, fostering
inclusion and maximizing the potential benefits ofshort video platforms for rural elder
users.
