Integrating Unstructured Data into the LMSs for Learning Analytics in Higher Education

Abstract

It is a most challenging task for the e-learning applications when searching and delivering appropriate learning objects to the learners. The use of general purpose web search engines for retrieving learning materials is insufficient for learners. The proposed mechanism with unstructured data integration into the LMSs would be supported to effective search and learning analytics in Sri Lankan Higher Education Institutes, where handling big data in most of the universities. The proposed mechanism analyzes the learner preferred subject areas and attributes specified in his/her academic profile. Then it suggests available and matching learning objects to the users in their profile page as extra resources. It would be an extraordinary opportunity for the LMS users to get a handle on an extended subject knowledge and exposure at once. Designing an able platform with necessary technological capabilities to provide this kind of learning analytical opportunities is challenging.
