Abstract:
Teaching is one of the most important key elements in education which is a key factor in conducting educational or academic plans. Mainly there are two types of teaching methods namely
Learner-centred and Teacher-centred. The adaptation to the effective teaching method plays a
vital role in the education context. According to the provided literature most of the researches
have been conducted to find out the factors affecting for the teaching however there are very
less number of considerations have gone through to find the most effective or suitable learning
method, which can be considered as a more practical and the emerging requirement of most
of the Teachers and Learners. Since no research has been done in the given Srilankan private
education context, the main objective is to find the effective teaching method based on learner’s
experience and the preferences regardless of any other external impacts. Therefore, one of the
largest private education providers in Sri Lanka has been selected for the basement of the research.The sample size has been chosen utilizing the Morgan table, and it was 380 Learners. In
terms of methodology, the researcher has used the deductive approach, positivism philosophy
and the valid investigation techniques. Questionnaires have been used as the data collection
method, in which the results have been analyzed to arrive at a conclusion and to provide valid
recommendations. The questionnaire consits of a set of questions according to the standard of
the philosophy of Adult Education Inventory. There are six factors have been analysed related to
Learning Pattern, Personalizing Instruction, Learner Experience, Assessment of learner needs,
participation in the learning process and Flexibility for personal development. The results reveal that the Learner-Centered approach pis highly preferred by the tertiary level learners. In
brief, performing awareness sessions with respect to the effective teaching method, recreating
the session plans with more practical hours to spend more collaborative hours, concentrate more
on the student’s needs have been included as recommendations.
