Abstract:
Ms. Kasthuri Wilson is one of the most popular female names, for
her career achievement as the first group CEO of public quoted
conglomerate in Sri Lanka. But only a very few names of women are
highlighted in the top positions in Sri Lanka. Even though our
women excel in education in their schools and universities, only a
few women achieve shining positions in their career is because of
the Glass ceiling. This research studies about the determinants of
female career development terms of family commitment, company
policies, practices and stereotype about women in private sector
companies in Sri Lanka. It is a quantitative research with a sample
of 90 managerial level female employees who are working for
private companies. Data were analyzed using Correlation and
Regression analysis. It was found that women career development
has negative relationship between stereotype among women,
family commitment and company policies and practices. This study
contributes to the literature by examining the determinants of
female career development in private sector firms in Sri Lanka
