STUDY ON CAUSTIC SODA EFFECTIVENESS IN SOFT DRINK BOTTLE WASHING OPERATION

Abstract

Presenting of a clean sterile bottle prior to filling is an essential part of the soft drink industry. This should be achieved by most economic manner. Therefore for the success of the bottle-washing operation is very important to choose a correct detergent and the correct detergent application conditions to the bottle-washing operation. The study was carried out to identify the various constraining factors of bottle-washing operation in soft drinks plant at Ceylon Cold Stores limited, which bottle washing operation is mainly done through caustic soda. Study was basically restricted to the chemical factors. Furthermore selecting other various functional chemicals, which increased the caustic action, and tried to establish a chemical blend with caustic soda for bottle-washing operation. In this study random samples of dirty bottles were selected and washed with various chemicals to find the effectiveness of the chemicals. Addition to caustic soda, other chemicals required if the basic caustic action inefficient. So that it is important to establish systematic way of bottle washing by caustic soda as the basic detergent. All the requirements such as the strength, time and temperature should maintain very correctly throughout the operation. If these factors maintain properly most of the bottle-washing problems can be eliminated. Further cleaning problem were raised, formulating chemicals to the caustic soda is important. By visual inspection comparing the washable or cleaning activity of chemicals is caused lot of problem when analyzing the data. Therefore further studies are needed to formulate a chemicals to caustic soda as bottle-washing detergent.
