Abstract:
The intent of the study is to investigate the unique literary features of Sri Chandraratne Manawasinghe’s lyrics based on his selected poetical experiences through locality. Further the study examines how Manawasinghe employed his inherent poetic abilities to compose lyrics. Manawasinghe’s lyrics were developed enough to garner respect from Sinhala literary authorities as a form of poetry. This, being a qualitative study, focuses on documented resources as primary resources of the research, therefore text analysis and literary appreciation were used in relation to the methodology to arrive at the conclusion. It establishes his lyrical approach, placing him as an innovative and a path-breaking lyrist in post-independent Sri Lanka. The findings of the research show that the lyrics by Sri Chandraratne Manawasinghe contain aesthetic and literary features that were derived
through local experiences.
