IDENTIFYING POTENTIALS IN PROMOTING DIVING AND SNORKELING TOURISM IN GALLE

Abstract

Diving and snorkeling tourism is a fast-leading activity in the tourism sector. The above-mentioned activities can be categorized under soft adventure tourism. The research is based on the “To identify potentials in promoting diving and snorkeling tourism in Galle” topic. Under that topic, the research identified the marine resources with high potential that are available in Galle where can implement and further develop diving and snorkeling. Furthermore, identified the issues and challenges of promoting diving and snorkeling tourism. Not only that described the recommendations and suggestions to overcome the challenges and issues. The information has been collected through PADI certified 06 dive centers, 01 non-PADI registered dive center, and 06 government-related institutions which directly related to diving and snorkeling tourism. To conduct the research and to collect information followed the “Open-ended semi structured interview method.” Applied and based qualitative research approach for this research. Furthermore, able to get great usage and good knowledge through the findings of the research about diving and snorkeling. With the base of the information of the research, strategies have been identified to promote the less-promoted and potential marine resources. The information from the research paper can be used as input for the government institutions that get involved with diving and snorkeling. Finally, through the research can get a clear idea about the sub-sectors or topics which have the opportunity to carry on future research.
