Abstract:
The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) emphasize building infrastructure and digital connectivity,
presenting an excellent opportunity for enhancing the provision of healthcare in partner countries,
including Sri Lanka. This abstract explains how Biomedical Engineering (BME) capabilities
combined with advanced digital infrastructure established through BRI efforts can assist
in achieving strong and accessible Smart Health Ecosystems beyond borders.The Biomedical
Research Initiative pulls together biomedical engineering solutions right into its cutting-edge
digital setup. That covers things like wearable sensors along with devices that monitor patients
from a distance. The initiative relies on solid 5G networks and fiber-optic links to back up
all these tech developments. Studies make it clear that this kind of connection tackles serious
healthcare issues. It helps especially in spots with few resources or far-off areas. On top
of that, the whole infrastructure handles massive data loads without much hassle. That turns
out to be vital for telemedicine systems and tools driven by AI diagnostics.Due to resource
constraints and geographic limitations, traditional healthcare systems frequently encounter difficulties.
BME provides cutting-edge technological solutions to solve these problems, including
wearable sensors, telemedicine platforms, and remote patient monitoring (RPM) devices.
Data centers, 5G infrastructure, and improved fiber-optic networks built under the BRI are essential
high-speed conduits for sending the massive volumes of data produced by these BME
technologies.This study proposes that a strategic partnership between BME and BRI’s digital
infrastructure can facilitate: 1) the reliable and efficient transfer of patient data for telemedicine
and remote diagnostics; 2) the deployment of AI-powered diagnostic support systems (created
by BME) in different clinical settings; and 3) the development of safe, interoperable Electronic
Health Records (EHRs) systems that improve regional health data sharing and collaboration.
The goal of this partnership between China and Sri Lanka is to create a model for a linked,
sustainable health environment that enhances clinical results, reduces healthcare inequalities,
and strengthens the BRI’s "Health Silk Road" strategy.
