Abstract:
The high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative relies not only on the robust
support of “hard connectivity" in policy, infrastructure, trade, and finance, but also on the consolidation
of the “soft connectivity" centered on “people-to-people bonds." Taking the strategic
cooperation between China and Sri Lanka as a case study, this paper delves into the unique
value and practical pathways of traditional Chinese cultural spirit in fostering people-to-people
bonds. It argues that the harmony-oriented concept of “harmonious coexistence," the valuedriven
principle of "balancing righteousness and benefit," and the community ethos of “global
consciousness" serve as vital spiritual resources for bridging cultural differences, addressing
trust deficits, and promoting sustainable cooperation. By analyzing practical cases of China-Sri
Lanka collaboration in major projects, livelihood assistance, and cultural exchanges, this paper
systematically elucidates how these traditional cultural concepts are translated from ideology
into practical impetus, effectively enhancing mutual understanding and emotional affinity at the
societal level. The study aims to provide theoretical foundations and practical insights rooted
in traditional Chinese culture, for strengthening strategic trust, innovating people-to-people exchange
mechanisms, and advancing the building of a human community with a shared future
within the framework of high-quality Belt and Road development.
